Haiti - Police force : Opening of the 22nd promotion
Following the release of the 21st promotion in August 2009, the Académie de police of Port-au-Prince was preparing to welcome a new class when the earthquake of January 12 has put an abrupt end to the ongoing preparations. Undeterred, the Haitian National Police (PNH), MINUSTAH and donor countries have since worked hard to be able to reopen the doors of the Academy as soon as possible.

All these efforts allowed, on September 2nd, the return of the 22nd promotion of the Académie de police of Port-au-Prince. 900 new recruits (836 men and 64 women), will receive a basic training for a period of 7 months at the end which 500 of them will join the ranks of officers currently active.

The 400 others finishing will follow a specialization which will make it possible 300 of them to be assigned with the correctional services of the National Prison authorities (APENA) and to the 100 others to reinforce the Haitian services of the coastguards in the various naval bases of the PNH.

With the promotion of this new group, scheduled for the first half of 2011, the PNH will increase its operational capacity and continue to advance along the path of reform, initiated in 2006.
