Haiti - Security : More than 5% of police officers threatened with dismissal
Thursday, inspector Marc Wilkens Jean, spokesman of the General Inspectorate of the National Police of Haiti (IGPNH) reported that during the month of May 2014, "645 recommendations ofdismissal of police officers (+ 5% of the national total) were approved by the Directorate General of the PNH and the Minister of Justice. Among the recommendations, 640 have been for abandonment of post and 5 for cases of theft, attempted rape, murder and drug trafficking."

Furthermore, he revealed that during this same period, the police work had helped to open 106 investigations, 38 cases were sent to the Directorate of PNH and that 13 police officers who lost their guns were ordered to repay them. Furthermore he stated that the warning lines (hotline) available, more than 40 complaints were received, among other for abuse of authority, trust, physical assault, assault, murder, marital conflict, human rights violations and corruption.

Finally Marc-Wilckens Jean unveiled the results of an investigation on the police, carried out by of inspectors of IGPNH in mid-May in the department of South-East. This investigation indicates that the general behavior of the police is generally exemplary and that the police have a good reputation "[...] there is a perfect harmony between the police and the justice and good relations between the police, local authorities and the people [...]"
further this investigation showed that all 10 police and six sub-stations of the department were well maintained and in good condition.
