Haiti - Elections : A provisional calendar submitted to the Political Parties

In a note, Me Fritzto Canton, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has submitted a proposal of electoral calendar in order to collect inclusively their opinions and proposals to establish the final calendar.

Two dates are to retain in this proposal that of the first round of elections 26 October 2014 and the second round on 15 December 2014.

This note points out that the CEP intends "[...] rganize credible and fair elections in a search for reconciliation of all social strata of the Nation around a willingness of implementation and consolidation of the fundamental institutions of the Republic [...]" and invites "all the forces of the Nation to combine their efforts to help our society to succeed one of the expected challenge of the country to better enter in the concert of civilized Nations."

Moreover, taking advantage of the International Day of Peacekeepers, Thursday, May 29, the international community continues to "maintain pressure" on politicians via Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti and Head of the Minustah which stated "[...] Regarding the elections, I would once again call on Haitian political actors at all levels, in the best interests of the Nation, to take all necessary measures and make concessions that are essential to move towards the holding of by-elections, municipal and local no later than October 26, 2014, as agreed during the historic inter-Haitian-dialogue.

It is extremely important to continue the process of dialogue in order to strengthen mutual confidence and ensure that elections, transparent, credible and inclusive stand in 2014.

The UN reiterated its willingness to accompany the country, and the population by providing support both operational and on the security plan, for the proper conduct of these elections [...]"
