Haiti - Social : Strike ends at Notre-Dame Hospital in Petit-Goâve
Monday, following the strike that paralyzed the Notre-Dame Hospital in Petit Goâve since last Thursday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11365-haiti-social-notre-dame-hospital-of-petit-goave-paralyzed-by-a-strike.html a delegation from the Ministry of Health led by Dr. Gessie Pierre Saint-Louis, Director of the Health Department of the West, went on site to investigate the situation and provide solutions to the various problems faced by the hospital.

On the morning of Monday, all external areas of the hospital were still closed (emergency, outpatient clinic, laboratory, pharmacy...) and patients had to be transported elsewhere because of the strike.

The delegation of Ministry that arrived around 9:00 am and held a preparatory meeting in the premises of the UCS-Goâvienne, with Dr. Watson Exantus, medical director of the hospital, the administrator Roland François and the responsible for UCS-Goâvienne, Dr. Gustave. Then the members of the delegation returned to the hospital to meet the strikers.

This meetings of more than two hours, was held at the office of the Director Warson Exantus in the presence of 5 representatives of striking employees, of Roland François, Dr. Gustave and two representatives of local authorities: Luc François and Joseph Blavette. After the meeting, all parties left satisfied.

ollowing the meeting, Dr. Watson Exantus gave a guarantee that all services will operate again. He also suggested the integration of the community in the management of the hospital Notre Dame otherwise we can solve the chronic problems of the hospital "We need all the notables of the city are involved in its administration management."

Ms. Pierre Saint-Louis confirmed to micro of journalists "The activities will resume at the hospital. We will restructure the Hospital. Paid employees have presented us their grievances. In two weeks we will meet them again, to permanently solve the problem [...] The important thing is that the strike ends. We will put Notre Dame Hospital in working order [...] We will make every effort to allow it to function well [...] that is why we will rule quickly on the case of absentee doctors (orthopedists, gynecologists) and see how we may appoint other experts [...] You can rely on us, by the end of the month, a solution will be found to the problem of paid workers."

However, the problems of the hospital is not limited only to the claims of employees. The hospital is faced with a recurring problem of human resources and a lack of space. Internal medicine, maternity and pediatrics, functioning poorly. At the internal medicine, male and female patients are found in the same room, unacceptable promiscuity. It is time for the project to build new rooms, prepared for several months, finally becoming a reality.
