Haiti - Politic : The Government wants to build a new Haiti

Thursday in an interview with Agence France Presse (AFP), the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe largely evoked the efforts of the Martelly Administration and of its Government in the reconstruction, relocation and accommodation of displaced, four years after the January 2010 earthquake.

He explained that the Government had established a Strategic Plan of Development of Haiti (PSDH), which is based, inter alia, on the construction of a new administrativecity in downtown, which takes into account the compensation of owners; the renovation of 12 public places in the metropolitan area; the construction and / or rehabilitation of 750 km of road; of social housing; cultural, health, school and sports infrastructures and urban renewal of neighborhoods of the metropolitan area.

Stressing that through the PSDH, the Government realizes 500 projects of integrated community development, covering the areas of health, education, energy, urban renewal and road infrastructure.

Recalling that through the efforts of the Government and its international partners, 92% of affected people in January 2010, were relocated and resettled in their original neighborhoods. 1,500 social housing units out of a total of 3,000 have already been inaugurated. Adding that by the end of the quinquennium of President Martelly, the Government plans to build 10,000 social housing units across the country. The peripheral neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince, Martissant and Baillergeau, will be renovated thanks to a funding of $40 million from European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD). www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11518-haiti-reconstruction-$40m-for-the-rehabilitation-of-informal-neighborhoods.html

Despite its limited financial resources, the Government welcomes the gradual reconstruction. However, the Prime Minister reminded donors to respects their commitments to Haiti what would allow the country to accelerate the process of development and reconstruction, including the future Port-au-Prince [on the $9 billion pledged to Haiti after the earthquake, only 48% were disbursed mainly in humanitarian and emergency].
