Haiti - CARICOM : The Head of State promotes the integration of people with special needs 05/07/2014 11:57:32 The President Martelly took advantage of this event to present the report of the Caribbean Conference of Petionville on the inclusive public policies on disability, which was held in Port-au-Prince in December 2013. "Some painful experiences experienced by Haiti in recent years, as the January 2010 earthquake, imply to divorce with certain practices, particularly with respect to the care of people with special needs [...] The issues of human rights, the recognition and respect for minority rights, are so important that I recommend that the public policies of CARICOM States in the field of disability are discussed with great interest," declared the President Martelly, who insisted that the leaders of the region, reflecting more on the particular problems faced by people with special needs. Friday, during the last working day, the President Martelly has invited the communities of the region to build inclusive societies for present and future generations. "We must recognize the important contribution, existential and potential, of people with disabilities, which can ontribute to the enrichment of the diversity of our societies." While pledging his commitment to take the necessary measures to build a physical and social environment that promotes empowerment, the rehabilitation and integration of people with special needs, the President Martelly has renewed its commitment to support all international efforts, whose results will be beneficial for Haiti.
