Haiti - Health : Graduation of the 3rd Promotion in epidemiology

Wednesday at the Oasis Hotel, the First Lady of the Republic, Sophia Martellyparticipated in the graduation ceremony of the 3rd Promotion 2013-2014, of Training Program in ield Epidemiology (PFET), whose she is the sponsor.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Rudy Hériveaux, Minister of Communication and also sponsor of the promotion, Dr. Georges Dubuche, Director General of the Ministry of Health and Population (MSPP), Dr. Victor Caceres, Representative of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ans some executives of the MSPP, parents and friends of the recipients.

Dr. Martial Benèche, President of the promotion, thanked the Department of Epidemiology, of Laboratoires and of the Research (DELR) for the management of this program supported by the CDC Atlanta, while promising, on behalf of his colleagues, to be at the service of the country. He wished that his promotion correctly incorporates the sector to put their knowledge at the service of country.

The First Lady welcomed 15 new graduates, specialists in epidemiology (whose 40% women) for their choice, while reminding them how difficult is the work ahead. Ms. Martelly took the opportunity to urge his downline to be humanists, people who aspire to a better life for the human race and who are aware of their mission to change their environment emphasizing "The recognition of epidemiology as a field of study is relatively new, and yet it is one of the pillars of public health and modern medicine. And if it holds a special place in this area, it is not only because of its scientific importance, but also because of its utility."

Note that this program, that is in its third Promotion, is supported by the CDC Atlanta and was established in 2010 after the earthquake. The laureate of the 3rd promotion is Dr. Célestin.
