Saturday, President Michel Martelly, accompanied by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11624-haiti-politic-eu-reiterates-its-confidence-in-the-government-martelly.html participated in Bois-Moquette, Pétion ville, in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Port-au-Prince, Javier Niño Peréz, representatives of Haitian institutions, international officials and employees of the Delegation... at the inauguration of the new premises of the EU Delegation in Haiti, heavily damaged during the earthquake of January 2010.

The Head of State praised the initiative that according to him constitutes a good bet on the future. He felt that, by this gesture, the European Union sought to pursue and strengthen its partnership with Haiti to continue to support itin its reconstruction and sustainable development. President Martelly, welcomed that the priority areas of the European Union in Haiti, such as infrastructure, food security, rural development, public administration reform, education and culture, are structuring sectors and among the most important for the development of the nation.

For his part, Herman Van Rompuy, declared "today I would like to emphasize the importance of the inauguration of these offices. After a significant strengthening in the staff during this year, nearly 50 people are now working in this building. Our Delegation in Haiti is the largest Delegation of the European Union in Latin America and the second in the Americas, after Washington. It also manages the largest cooperation program throughout Latin America, with a portfolio of ongoing projects of about 800 million euros.

This building symbolizes the commitment of the European Union with Haiti. Our relationship not only result from a show of solidarity following a humanitarian crisis, an accident in the life of a people, an unprecedented accident. Our relations are rooted in a rich and complex past. They are rooted in a conscience of belonging. Our relationship extend towards the future.

It is from this antenna, in Haitian land, that we present you a friend and supportive hand. We want to help you realize the dreams of freedom, development, security and justice in which the Haitian people, like any other people, aspire."
