Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (June 2014)

The General Index of Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004) increased during the month of June 2014, rising to 217.3 against 215.9 in May, or a 4.2% yoy an increase of +0.7% compared to 3.5% in May 2014.

The monthly variation in the month of June, results from the upward trend of the indices of consumption: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+0.6%), "Apparel, Textiles and Footwear" (1.4%) "Planning, Equipment and Maintenance of housing" (+1.0%). "Health" (+2.9%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+1.6%).

The increase in "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index is due to higher cost of wheat flour (+2.2%), of beef (+1.1%), pork (+1.3%) and goat (+1.0%), fresh fish (+2.0%), of herring (+1.6%), salt herring (+2.4% ), eggs (+0.6%), bananas (+1.0%), of giraumont (+0.8%), of kazoo (+1.4%), cabbage (+1.7%), carrots (+3.2% ), tomato (+1.8%), yam (+1.2%), malanga (+0.8%), sweet potato (+0.7%) and potatoes (+0.5%) and the true tree (+1.4%), orange (+0.6%), the chadèque (+1.4%) and lemon (+1.3%).

Note that the increase in "Clothing and Textile Shoes" index comes particularly from higher fabric prices (+2.5%), costume, universal jacket (+1.2%), shirts (+1.7 %), dress (+2.0%) petticoat (+2.1%), panty girdle (+1.4%), clothing apparel (+1.0%), and tennis shoes are (+0.9% ) and sandals (+1.0%).

The increase in the "Maintenance Planning and Housing" index is linked particularly to items : living room furniture (+0.8%), dining room (+1.1%), bed (+1.6%), mattresses (+2.3%) , bed linen (+5.1%), curtains (+2.8%), web (+1.8%), refrigerator (+1.1%), insecticide (+4.4%), disinfectant (+3.8%) and dry cleaning (+1.3%).

nflationary pressures in the "Health" index is attributable to prescription glasses (+0.7%), fees paid to doctors (+5.4%) and hospitalization costs (+1.6%).

Finally, the products that contributed most to the increase in the index "Other Goods and Services" are: shampoo (+1.1%), perfume and eau de toilette (+2.7%), powder toilet (+5.1%), the body cream (+4.2%), other hair care products (+2.8%) and beauty care (+1.7%).

General Price Index by Region (Variation on a month) :

Metropolitan Area: +0.6% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.6% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.9% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.7% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.6% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
