Tuesday, President Michel Martelly accompanied by the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, with his Dominican counterpart Danilo Medina, sealed in the Dominican Republic, "the declaration of Punta Cana" with the support of European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy. The two countries promised that they will work to promote the strengthening of cooperation in various fields.

President Martelly said he believes that the presence of the President of the European Council, in Dominican Republic earlier this week in Haiti, is a proof of its determination to strengthen cooperation not only between the two countries, but with the European Union. Convinced that the two nations should learn a lot from the cross-border management in the European Union. He thanked the EU for its assistance in binational projects on trade, the environment, migration, customs, security and the fight against organized crime.

"The European Union is ready to share its experience in immigration, customs, border management and trade as well as to continue to provide assistance to the implementation of the agreements concluded in the framework of high-level dialogue binational," declared Van Rompuy who congratulated the Parliament and the government of the Dominican Republic for their initiative to pass a law on immigration.
