Haiti - Security : Dominican Republic strengthens its electronic surveillance at the border

In order to fight more effectively against smuggling of all kinds and the illegal entry of Haitian immigrants on its territory, the Dominican Republic continues to expand its monitoring of the border with Haiti. After the strengthening of military, the purchase of 2 helicopters, 20 all-terrain vehicles and several trucks, the neighboring Republic has just increased its electronic surveillance.

The "Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza" (Cesfront) and the Dominican Army, organisms responsible for border security, just installed 150 additional cameras, in addition to the 70 already installed there three years, in the border crossings points of Jimani, Dajabón, Pedernales and Elias Piña.

These 220 ​​cameras from control center located on military sites of Capotillo in Dajabón, Comendador, Jimani, as well as in the J2 Department of the Ministry of Defence, allow to monitor 24/7, 42 border crossings, binational markets and also the work of the soldiers at the common border.
