Haiti - Politic : Important working session with the International Finance Corporation 02/08/2014 12:11:06
Within the framework of the official visit of Jean Philippe Prosper, Vice-President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) / World Bank, for Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (30 July to 2 August), the President Michel Martelly, held Friday at the National Palace, an important working session with Mr. Prosper at the head of a delegation. Discussions focused among others : on the economic and social policy agenda of the country; of assets of Haiti and selected sustainable development strategies; the creation of sustainable jobs and generating of tax revenue; the role of the private sector in the provision of basic services; the expected role of IFC to attract new investors in Haiti and its support for Haitian investors; the elimination of barriers to the development of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs); the improvement of the business environment and the port sector. Note that the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development assistance institution whose activities relate exclusively to the private sector and that in addition to its relationship with the Haitian private sector, the IFC hascurrently a certain number of major projects with the Government including : the Law on Leasing (Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) - Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH)); the law on movable securities (Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI - BRH); the reform of Environmental Affairs (Primature); the establishment of a policy and procedures for Public-Private Partnerships (MEF); a partnership between the Industrial Development Company (CODEVI), IFC and the Government for the creation of additional jobs in CODEVI (MEF - MCI) and the analysis, with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), of the opportunity to attract private operators in the renovation and operation of the port of Cap Haitien ((Primature - MEF - APN National Port Authority) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11718-haiti-reconstruction-$65m-to-modernize-the-port-of-cap-haitien.html HL/ HaitiLibre
