Haiti - Tourism : Tour of Minister of Tourism in Ile-à-Vache

As part of a tour of supervision of various projects in Ile-à-Vache, on 14 and 15 August, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industry (MTCI) participated in a kick-off meeting for the construction of the section of a farm road 3.5 kilometers connecting "Kafou sitwon" to "Baleraz" via "Bwabouton" with the Movement of Planters for the Development of Ile-à-Vache (MPDI) in the presence of local authorities.

On the sidelines of the meeting, a Memorandum of Financing of 1.5 million of gourdes, to be uused for the purchase of tools and payment of workers (labor-intensive work), was signed between the Ministries of Tourism and of Agriculture, the City Council and the MPDI in the presence of Fresner Dorcin, Secretary of State for Plant Production.

At this meeting, attended Agronomist Charles Pierrot, citizen and former Secretary of the KOPI Organization (a local organization) previously opposed the project, said he was now ready to work with the Project Coordinators as part of its implementation. A statement warmly welcomed by the audience composed of about fifty people.

The Minister also visited, accompanied by Fresner Dorcin, one of 38 nurseries, on about fifty that must be implemented in the localities of the island, as part of the Arboriculture project with young ilavachois and ilavachoises. Each of these nurseries contain on average between 3,000 and 4,000 seedlings (Lemon, custard apple, papaya, Cherry, Mango, Chadèque, etc...)

The Minister also visited the locality of Pointe-Est where she met opinion leaders, to discuss with them the construction of water tanks, as suggested by the notables of the area in order to feed the local population with water, a rare commodity in this region.

Stéphanie Villedrouin also made ​​arrangements for the toilet blocks be built in the area and a health center must be equipped to serve the population.
