In a statement, President Michel Martelly said he was very touched by the grief that struck the family of Pope Francis, this August 19, 2014, in Argentina.

"The Head of State is indeed deeply saddened by the news of the death of Mrs. Valeria Carmona, wife of Emanuel Horacio Bergoglio, a nephew of Pope Francis and his two young children, Antonio (8 months) and Jose (2 years), killed in a car accident, in the region of Cordoba, in Argentina.

In these painful circumstances, the President of the Republic, in his own name and on behalf of the Haitian people, present to Pope Francis, his family, and his collaborators in the Vatican, its sincerest condolences."
