Haiti - Humanitarian : Cap Haitien well prepared for disasters
Nigel Fisher, the UN deputy representative of the secretary general in Haiti [who took his functions in Haiti in April 2010], recently visited Cap-Haitien, in the North of the country, in order to evaluate the preparation of the local authorities and the humane actors in the event of crisis situations caused by a hurricane or a seism.

Nigel Fisher said he was "very pleased with the planning and mobilization of resources to face the hurricane season and the rain". The UN agencies have implemented a program of emergency preparedness, including storing 6,500 tons of food. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF) has pre-positioned in warehouses of the World Food Programme (WFP), several containers of emergencies materials.

Mr. Fisher reiterated the support of the UN to help the authorities to prepare emergency. He also promised "to do everything so that are placed at the disposal of the coastguards of North two boats likely to be used to save lives."

Mr. Fisher which is his first visit to the North promised to return in the department for the establishment of projects of rehabilitation of health centres.
