Haiti - Environment : Miami donated two garbage trucks to Port-de-Paix

Port-de-Paix had only one garbage truck for the collecting of its urban waste. Since the seism of last January, Port-de-Paix, saved by the earthquake, saw its population grow significantly, tens of thousands of refugees fleeing the capital. This sudden overpopulation was not without posing serious health problem in the city. With facilities for waste management is already inadequate before the earthquake, the city ended up with arrivals and an incapacity to face the urban collecting of the considerable increase of waste.

Guillet Salvador, the mayor of Port-de-Paix on the Northern coast can today find the smile thanks to the generosity of the town of Miami and Waste Management, a specialized company in the urban cleansing which made gift of two trucks garbage trucks and a check of $25,000 for the transport of the vehicles in Haiti and ensure initial maintenance. Moreover, part of these funds will be used to buy hundreds of dustbins, wheelbarrows, shovels and other supplies for the city.

Tomas Regalado, mayor of Miami was pleased with this contribution "It is extraordinary, that will make a difference in a city which was submerged by waste" especially since the reconstruction was delayed, refugees from Port-de-Paix are here for a long time. The mayor of Port-de-Paix with warmly thanked its contributors "We appreciate largely what the town of Miami in partnership with Waste Management, made to help us in this situation of great needs".

Port de Paix will finally come out of a bad and dangerous situation for human health as soon as the equipment will arrive at the port, everyone waits impatiently.
