Haiti - Politic : Journalists victims of aggression in Petit Goâve...

The Press Club of Petit-Goâve (Cercle des Journalistes) vehemently condemns the attacks in series directed against the local press, noting that in less than a month, at least five journalists have been the victim of physical or verbal aggressions, from individuals identified as relatives of those in power or as members of the opposition.

Yesterday Tuesday, our correspondent, the journalist Guyto Mathieu, CEO of Radio Préférence FM, was once again the victim of insults and degrading remarks, from opposition demonstrators, which qualifies the Station manager "defender and supporter of deputy Thimoléon." This incident follows to the threat of September 4 by protesters responding to the call of the "Mixed Liberation Front" against the same journalist. moz-action:switchtab,https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11989-haiti-politic-demonstration-in-petit-goave-and-threats-against-our-correspondent.html

In addition to these deplorable incidents, the Press Club, stresses the physical aggression suffered on August 29 by the journalist Ephesian joseph, by protesters in favor of the deputy, who stole him his tools; of the case of journalist Duralph Emmanuel François molested on September 4 by supporters of the Mayor of Petit-Goâve, or of the case of Gibsonne Bazile, CEO of Radio Vision Plus, always under the threat of a possible arrest by the judicial authorities of the city.

Me Emmanuel Louiceus, General Secretary of the Press Club believes that these intolerant behavior, demonstrates the will to harm the freedom of expression and subsidiarily to the corporation of Journalists of Petit-Goâve...

The Press Club, in conjunction with local organizations for the defense and protection of human rights has taken the initiative to meet separately, local authorities and opposition representatives to inform them of their grave concern about the development of this circumstances. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, no change in behavior was observed and the press continues to face agressions.

The Press Club of Petit Goâve launches once again a call to concertation of all journalists, to send a clear signal to all individuals or sectors, who want to take the press for target.
