The Haitian Foundation for National Recovery and Development (FHRD), founded in 2010, will inaugurate its 4th social project of construction of houses, the Scalabrini Village in Lilavois 58, Croix-des-Bouquets, Friday, Sept. 12.

Affected by the testimony of Italian Scalabrini priest working in Haiti for years, some benefactors, namely Development and Peace Canada and Secours Catholique Caritas France have responded positively and concretely by "Materializing their sensitivity" through the financing of housing for 40 families in the town of Croix-des-Bouquets.

These are cooperative housing where selected candidates, according to criteria pre-established by the Board of Directors of the FHRD participate in 10 training workshops and awareness about the environment, regulations and maintenance of the village houses to facilitate coexistence in respect and the mutual support. Tenants now, although yhey only pay an amount appropriate to their economic situation, the beneficiaries of Scalabrini Village become owners after ten years.

This philosophy of the FHRD promotes the spirit of cooperation to help people to be the protagonists of their own development, thus contributing to the banishment of the spirit of economic independence. Furthermore, through this method, the FHRD, encourages them to live a "full humanity" and worthy.

Housing of Scalabrini Village are of two types. Housing of 58,65 m2, equipped with two bedrooms, a toilet, a multi-purpose room and a gallery and Housing 72,07 m2, with three bedrooms, a toilet, a multi-purpose room and a gallery.

According to Xavier Isaac, President of theBoard of FHRD, beneficiaries have learned to know each other, share ideas, develop regulations for a harmonious community life through training workshops. The FHRD wants to develop a spirit of solidarity between citizens of the civil society and raise awareness the latter about their social responsibility to the future of their heritage.
