![]() Haiti - Politic : 7th days of violence in Petit-Goâve... 18/09/2014 10:31:53
Around noon, the event turned violent in front of the Mayor of Petit-Goâve, where stone-throwing were launched in all directions forcing the security forces to intervene to break up a very angry crowd, firing their guns into the air. Meanwhile, around 12:30 pm another group of opponents blocked the national road #2 with barricades of burning tires and a truck arranged in the middle of the road, forcing vehicles and bus transit go through the city center. Clashes happened around 1:00 pm, between protesters and agents of the Departmental Unit for Maintenance of Order (UDMO). Many young people report being beaten by police force, while several people were injured by stone-throwing on the side of UDMO agents. In the afternoon, several streets in the city, many group of armed youths attacked with stones UDMO officers, who responded by firing tear gas. Clashes with law enforcement also took place at the bus station (block André 17). By late afternoon, a young boy, Jacky Alliantice returning from Vialet was shot and wounded on National Road #2. According to our information his life is not in danger. Also that day, on the sidelines of these demonstrations two buses (Pappadap) collided at the locality of Chabanne. Several passengers injured are reported.
