Haiti - Tourism : 2015, year of the normalization of the hotel sector

A year and a half after the launch of the campaign for classification of tourist facilities across the country https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8251-haiti-tourism-launch-of-the-program-of-classification-of-tourist-establishments.html Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) proceeded to the delivery of scutcheons to the hotel owners whose establishments were classified. "This stem announces 2015 as the year of normalization of Haitian hospitality industry, ," declared the Minister.

"After this phase, the hotel operators and inspectors of establishments will be able to use a Hisbicus Classification Guide, produced in collaboration with the Corporation of the Quebec Tourism Industry (CITQ)," announced Berthide Noailles, Classification Officer in the Ministry of Tourism.

A program of training and accompaniment for the hotel owners on the quality of service, "Qualicert" is also provided during this step. "This program is a quality certification for employees of the hospitality industry. This label will be a guarantee of quality to customers," assured Daniel Denis, Director of Training at the Ministry.

For its part, Ulrick Emmanuel Noël, Investment Director, announced the implementation of a "Plan of compliance with standards for tourist accommodation establishments". To this MTIC provides all the necessary accompaniment to operators in the sector by facilitating the granting of incentive provided under the Investment Code (customs duty and tax exemptions). According to Mr. Noël, the Ministry reiterates its full support for the development of a hotel and tourist offer of quality very competitive at regional level.

Recall that since its launch, 456 facilities, totaling more than 4,000 hotel rooms, were classified across the country.

Note that the classification grids will be available for hoteliers, to enable them to better position themselves in relation to the criteria, but also to win hibiscus, the Haitian equivalent of the stars of the international classification.
