Monday, Jean Monestime sworn in Monday for his second term (first elected Nov. 2, 2010) and was subsequently elected as Chair of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, Florida. "I am deeply humbled and honored by the confidence my colleagues have placed in me, and I am very excited and looking forward to continue working with all my fellow Commissioners in a spirit of unity to keep Miami-Dade County moving in a positive direction," Commissioner Monestime said. "I am also profoundly grateful to this great nation and this wonderful community for giving me the opportunity to serve, and most of all for proving that the American dream is still very much alive for anyone who works hard enough to achieve it." From 1 January 2015, Jean Monestime, Haitian-American, a native of Saint-Louis du Nord, will chair the 13-member structure responsible for administering the largest county in the state of Florida with a budget estimated at more US $6 billion. François Guillaume II, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, declared "Jean Monestime wrote a new page in the history of American politics by becoming the first Haitian-American to hold this position in the State of Florida. On behalf of the administration Martelly/Lamothe, the MHAVE wish continued success to Mr. Monestime in his new role."
