Thursday, Réginald Delva, the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) in collaboration with the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) has launched a new phone service, 8118, to reduce waiting time to DIE for passport applications; improve the quality of passport issuance service; ensure equal access to public service and facilitate public access to information.

The 8118 will be officially operational for the public on 8 December 2014.

Wherever you are in Haiti, you can reach the call center [capacity of 60 simultaneous calls] from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 8118 via Digicel or Natcom.

It will suffice to passport applicant to call the 8118. An operator at the call center connected to the reservation system will record an appointment and will provide a list of all documents needed to process the request.

The applicant will receive an SMS with the date and time of his appointment and the list of documents to be submitted.

The applicant will present to the EIS at the time of his appointment. The reception service will check appointments and guide the person to a treatment booth.

In less than an hour, the application process for a new passport or passport renewal will be recorded.

Note that this is a supplementary service and it is always possible to apply by the ancient canals which are now connected with the computer system.
