Haiti - Diplomacy : The Core Group welcome the decision of the President and Prime Minister

Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti and other members of the international community in Haiti represented in the "Core Group" (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, United States of America, the European Union, and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States) welcome the decision taken by the President of the Republic on 12 December https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12719-haiti-flash-i-agree-with-the-recommendations-that-were-made-dixit-michel-martelly.html to pursue the implementation of the recommendation of the Presidential Advisory Commission in a manner that enjoys broad consensus, preserves stability and builds confidence in the democratic process.

The process undertaken by President Michel Martelly to meet with a range of actors across different sectors of the country, which has led to this important work of the Commission, represents a step forward towards the resolution of the ongoing political and electoral crisis. In that regard, the Core Group acknowledges today’s https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12727-haiti-flash-resignation-of-laurent-lamothe-and-his-ministers.html announced decision by Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe to acquiesce to the patriotic gesture recommended by the Commission by tendering his resignation in efforts to assist in reducing political tensions and overcoming the impasse.

Mindful of the urgency to move forward, these efforts of the Haitian people to promote dialogue, build confidence and hold inclusive and fair elections are hallmarks of a strong and stable democracy.

The members of the Core Group reiterate their call to all actors from across the political spectrum to rally around the greater good of the nation, within the framework of the solution adopted by the President of the Republic in order to preserve stability and create a climate of confidence.
