Haiti - Social : Haitian women abandon their children in Dominican hospitals
Although not common, cases of Haitian children drop in Dominican hospitals are not rare. Saturday a Haitian mother after having made admitting by doctors of the emergency of the hospital Arturo Grullón of Santiago, her twin children, who had health problems, then abandoned them, have informed the hospital officials.

Dr. Rosa Morel, Director of the hospital, said this was not the first time that Haitian mothers abandoned young children in hospital. Referring to the case of another Haitian mother who had abandoned too two newborn twins, the hospital had to keep them 5 months and the case of another abandoned small Haitian stayed one year before the National Council for Children (CONANI) support them.

Mrs. Morel explained that the scenario was the same, the mothers arrive with a sick child, doctors undertake their admission and mothers disappear and never come back "what is not without disadvantages to the hospital and the authorities, because when that happens, it is necessary to take care for the children until the CONANI, locates a family or an institution to accommodate them."

Dr. Rosa Morel said that in front this phenomenon new measures will be taken against the Haitian who bring their children to the hospital, to prevent new cases of dropouts occurring.
