Haiti - Mexico : Second round of negotiations around of an APPRI

The second round of negotiations on the development of an Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments (APPRI) between Haiti and Mexico, was recently held at the Ministry of Trade and Industry under the leadership of negotiators Chenet St-Vil for Haiti and Guillermo Malpica Soto, for Mexico.

After two days of negotiations, the two delegations agreed to continue working to finalize within a reasonable time, the preparation of texts and to achieve an agreement taking into account the interests of both countries.

Recall that a first round of discussions took place from 30 September to 2 October 2014 in the Mexican capital.

The APPRI should allow Mexican companies producing in Haiti to export, free of customs duties, to other CARICOM countries, a market of 8 million people to which must be added a floating population of 25 million tourists visiting the region annually. This represents a great opportunity for Haiti to create jobs through its territory through Mexican investment. Meanwhile, Haitian entrepreneurs interested in investing in Mexico, will also be protected by this agreement.

This agreement aims to implement the wishes of the President Martelly in Merida last April on the sidelines of the summits of the Association of Caribbean States and CARICOM-Mexico and favorably welcomed by his counterpart Enrique Peña Nieto, to make Haiti the gateway to the Caribbean Common Market for Mexico.
