In a note, which replaces all previous on the same subject, Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP) reiterates the absolute need to protect Haiti from the Introduction of the Ebola virus disease on its territory.
"After having examined the current international guidelines on Ebola, and in consultation of the ones prescribed in the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (WHO / PAHO) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it was decided after taking into account the particular vulnerability of Haiti to implement the following recommendations :
- All Haitians and foreigners living in the country should avoid traveling to countries currently affected by the active transmission of Ebola, including Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea Conakry and Mali, except in cases of absolute necessity ;
- All those who have traveled in countries mentioned above can not and should not seek to enter in Haiti before a minimum period of 21 days after the departure of or of affected countries;
- The Ministry of Interior will ensure that the 21-day period be scrupulously respected, mainly by interviewing travelers entering the country and checking their travel documents such as passports, visas and others. In case of doubt, the immigration authorities must refer the traveler to health personnel made available by MSPP for this purpose;
- The authorities present at ports of entry must ensure that the instructions for screening travelers are widely disseminated to the relevant services;
- Anyone who has traveled in the countries mentioned above and with symptoms of Ebola, on or after arriving in Haiti, even after the 21 days required, must consult a doctor immediately in order to protect its health, its immediate environment, and the country as a whole.
