Haiti - Reconstruction : The church has many projects but lack funds

"The Church has many projects for the reconstruction of Haiti, but it will be difficult to achieve because of lack of funding", said the Archbishop Auza Bernardito, the apostolic nuncio in Haiti

Concerning the situation of refugees, the nuncio said that "the best solution is one of the Catholic Relief Services (CSR), in other words to bring back the families in their communities of origin [...] CRS built temporary houses that are assigned to those already living there. To build final houses is not at the day order, it would also be too expensive and neither the government nor the international community are obliged to do so, at least in this period other major needs. That said, however, some NGOs are trying to build permanent houses".

"The Church, meanwhile, has many projects" indicated Bishop Bernardito Auza "but the constructions have not yet begun. We hope to launch the first projects as the reconstruction of National Seminar to mark the first anniversary of the earthquake [...] in the meantime, the seminarians are accommodated in large semi-permanent tents that can last for years. We hope that within three years we will have a new seminary.
