Haiti - News Flash : Details of damage and loss of lives confirmed
According to the National Meteorological Centre of Haiti (Centre National de Météorologie d’Haïti CNM), the weather phenomenon that has suddenly struck Haiti on Friday lasted 30 minutes. In addition to Port-au-Prince, the phenomenon has affected the surrounding areas of Thomazeau, Ganthier, Fond Verettes, Gressier and southern regions, like Petit Goave and Cayimites Islands.

The assessment would be of 5 deaths confirmed by the report of Civil protection sent to the United Nations and not 10 as had indicated we in a preceding bulletin, a great confusion reigns on the ground and informations [fortunately] was not confirmed until now. Marie Alta Jean-Baptiste chief of civil protection mentions several hundreds of people wounded to differing degree.

Preliminary estimates from the UN there would be 2,000 tents damaged or destroyed but the number could increase to over 5,000, when assessments are completed. Moreover Nadia Lochard said "a structure will be established to accommodate the victims, until arrangements are made to distribute 5,000 new tents" suggests that the figure of 2,000 tents is a minimum.

Golf Club of Petionville, run by actor Sean Penn, mention is made of the destruction of the medical tent and tents housing the staff.

Gerhard Tauscher, cluster housing coordinator of the International Federation of Red Cross says that in some neighborhood of capital almost 10% of shelters were destroyed, the damage is concentrated in central urban areas.

Management facilities of the camps, including tents office, clinics and child care spaces have been destroyed, especially in camps, perched on a hillside between downtown Port-au-Prince neighborhood of Petion-ville .

  • Parc Kolofe (Delmas) : 100 tents destroyed
  • Champ de Mars (Port-au-Prince) : Trees falling over tents
  • Eglise de Dieu de la Pentecote (Delmas) : 75% of tents destroyed , 2 children died
  • Marassa 14 (Croix des Bouquets) : 80 tents destroyed - Flooding
  • Place Fierte (Cite Soleil) : 250 tents destroyed
  • Camp Turck (Tabarre) : 166 tents destroyed
  • Santo 17 (Croix des Bouquets) : 52 tents destroyed, 67 tents damaged
  • Juvenat (Pétion-ville) : Many tents destroyed, many people injured
  • Nelio (Cité Soleil) : 30 shelters destroyed, 3 big tents damaged
  • Terrain Acra (Delmas) : one death, one injured receiving treatment, 50 shelters damaged
  • Acra Nord Sud Delmas 33 (Delmas) : one death (not IDP), 129 tents destroyed
  • Centre d'hebergement anba bannann (Carrefour) : 20 tents damaged
  • Lakou Nouyok (Pétion-ville) : Women suffered head injury
  • Canapé Vert (Port-au-Prince) : 2 school tents destroyed, 20 family tents destroyed, minor wounds treated
  • Fraternité (Cité Soleil) : 16 damaged tents, 15 latrines destroyed, completely flooded
  • COSEM (Tabarre) : 67 tents damaged, of which 26 from vulnerable people, one large tent for social activities destroyed
  • Camp radio commerce (Cité Soleil) : Security issues, one child death and burried, 45 tents destroyed

The rainy situation, could continue during the 4 next days with a risk of intensification Monday and Tuesday.
