Haiti - Economy : Assistance program for the textile merchants in Pétion-Ville

Tuesday at the Hotel Karibe, President Michel Martelly, in the presence of Wilson Laleau, Minister of Commerce and Industry, of the Acting Executive Agent of Pétion-Ville, the mayor Yvanka Jolicoeur, of officials of the Unibank and merchants association members, participated in the official launch of the Assistance program for the textile merchants.

This initiative of the municipal administration, in conjunction with Unibank, under the patronage of the Head of State will initially concern a hundred merchants located primarily on the Darguin Street (Petionville). To begin this assistance program, Unibank has credited a bank account for the benefit of the textile merchants, who exhibited on this occasion, their products.

Furthermore, the municipality of Petionville announced that it had a plan to build a new market to the location of the "New York market" which will be designed to accommodate 61 sales areas.

In his speech, the President Martelly said "One of the most important things for me is to allow each Haitian to benefit of better living conditions [...] I ask each merchant to love what they do, in order to better do it and give better results," taking the opportunity to express his appreciation to Unibank for its support to this social assistance program.

Carl Braun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, said that his financial institution was "very happy to accompany and supervise textile merchants" and wished that this program is available to all tradersacross the country.
