Haiti - Social : Message from the Secretary of State Gérald Oriol Jr. 26/12/2014 09:15:32 "[...] These significant advances are recorded at different scales and at different levels of disability issues. On the government side, important milestones were achieved at the institutional strengthening, with the establishment of the Interministerial Monitoring Committee on Disability (CISH), the implementation of the Haitian Institute of Rehabilitation Gérard Léon and the inauguration of a new departmental office of BSEIPH in the South of the country; at the level of public policies on disability, measures integrating the transversal and multi-sectoral nature of disability have been adopted and have led to targeted interventions that take into account the special needs of people with disabilities in employment, social protection, among others; legally, significant leaps are underway with the vote on the draft bill on the organization and functioning of the National Solidarity Fund for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities in the Chamber of Deputies; at the level of integration in the labor market, an important step was taken with the establishment within the BSEIPH of job placement service for the disabled. To members of Government and the public sector, we say thank you for having worked to consider the transversal nature of disability and to have understood and to endorse the idea that the demand for services for people with special needs do not affect principles of access to universal and uniform service. To our immediate collaborators in the BSEIPH, who every day, whatever the circumstances, assume their responsibilities in the discipline and a spirit of public service of quality, we thank you and wish you good continuity. Each employee in one way or another, at one level or another, has contributed in achieving the planned actions in favor of disabled people. To the many leaders and members of associations of disabled people, we express our feelings of gratitude. The BSEIPH is proud for your cooperation and thank you for your ever more indispensable support for the progression of disability sector. Together we have worked hard to improve the standards and values of a society that embraces social justice, gender equity in general and in particular on disability and the right to difference. In addition to legal norms, we firmly believe that significant progress has been made at the level of awareness on the application of universal accessibility standards; at the level of tolerance vis-à-vis of people with disabilities, acceptance and recognition of their rights as citizens and equal citizens. Although the road ahead is still long, we have the feeling that most of leaps forward have been made in recent years. To the private business sector, national and international partners who have offered their support and have shown openness and magnanimity for the cause of disabled people, we extend our thanks and congratulations. We had peerless partners who worked on significant challenges. Thank you for having been able to meet commitments with us, the positive effects are great for improving the living conditions of the disabled population. To the press that granted a favorite place in the disability sector, awareness of public opinion on the situation of persons with special needs, we say thank you and good persistence. It is never easy to make a gigantic work flawlessly. The essential is to have attempted and to try to accomplish what falls not only in the he obligation but of duty of the heart. To the public in general and the various populations, we say thank you for everything, including tolerance and acceptance of the right to difference. Democracy requires it but we believe that our society is making major strides in spite of some forms of resistance. To everyone who has supported us in one way or another, we say thank you. To you all, without distinction, we say Good and Happy New Year celebrations and a happy 2015 !" Gérald Oriol Jr, Secretary of State HL/ HaïtiLibre
