Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (November 2014)

For the month of November 2014, the General Consumer Price Index recorded a slight slowdown, month on month, with a variation of 0.5% against 0.6% in October. By cons, some acceleration was observed in annual rate with 6.2% increase in November against 5.8% the previous month.

Apart from the indexes "Transport" and "hobbies, entertainment, education and culture" that have stagnated, all other indices have contributed to the increase in November. The most significant changes are in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" (+0.5%), "Clothing and Textiles, Footwear" (+0.6%), "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" (+1.0% ), "Development, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" (+0.8%) and" other goods and services" (+1.2%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget resulting from the increase of products such as pork (+0.7%), goat meat (+0.8 %), chicken (+1.7%), fresh fish (+1.4%), banana (+1.8%), giraumont (+2.0%), the marker (+2.5%), leek (+1.8%), aubergine (+2.7 %), cabbage (+2.7%), onion (+2.0%), carrots (+2.0%), tomato (+2.0%), yam (+2.4%), malanga (+3.0%), cassava (+2.4% ), potatoes (+2.4%), potatoes (+2.9%) and cigarettes (+2.1%).

The increase observed in the index "Clothing and Textile Shoes" is the result of the increase in products such as tissues (+0.6%), suit, jacket Universal (+0.8%), clothing clothing (+1.2% ), and tennis shoes (+1.4%) and sandals (+0.9%).

The increase in the rent housing prices owes its progression mainly to changes in the following two items: the rent housing (+1.8%) and charcoal (+0.6%).

Finally, the inflation of the function"Other goods and services" is related specifically to the increase in shampoo prices (+1.7%), perfume, toilet water (+1.4%), toilet powder (+3.3%) and the body cream (+1.3%) and watches (+4.2%).

Apparel and textiles, footwear : 11.1%

Rent housing, energy and water : 4.9%

Development and maintenance of housing : 8.4%

Health : 5.0%

Transport : 6.0%

Leisure, entertainment, education and cultural : 12.5%

Other goods and services : 13.3%

General Price Index by Region (Variation on a month) :

Metropolitan Area: +0.5% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.4% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.6% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.6% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.7% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
