Following the first symposium on the problem of extreme poverty in Haiti, an initiative of the Government of Haiti, which was held from 6 to 9 November in Port-au-Prince, the Office the Delegate Minister Marie Carmèle Rose Anne Auguste responsible for human rights and the fight against extreme poverty, announces the publication of the book «Think and struggle towards a Haiti without poverty» (378 pages), a collective work followed by an essay by Vivian Labrie.

Cyclones, riots, earthquake, massive population movements, emergency camps in several cities, all these events have, in recent years undermined the socio-economic situation of Haiti, which has one of the highest inequalities monetary rate in the world.

How to think and fight against extreme poverty? Here is the result of the work of national and international stakeholders, development experts, representatives of civic organizations, international agencies and donors came to exchange and share knowledge about the phenomenon. They explored ways and means to combat poverty in the symposium "Think and struggle : towards a Haiti without poverty", which was intended to propose strategies to reduce poverty from 51 to 40% by 2016, in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for reducing extreme poverty and hunger.

Three axis were studied during this conference :

• The presentation of the inventory established and knowledge on extreme poverty, the extent of the phenomenon and its indicators in Haiti ;

• Put into perspective of the fight against extreme poverty by Haitian and foreign specialists ;

• The organization of workshops on various sub-themes relating to the fight against extreme poverty and social exclusion.

This work of restitution of the symposium, was led by the Coordinating Committee of the symposium consists of : the Minister Auguste, of Dr Louis Naud Pierre, of Federica Marzo, Joseph Mérat, Boby Emmanuel Piard, Vivian Labrie and Évelyne Pedneault.
