Haiti - FLASH : The G6 rejects the second convening and sets conditions

Following the failure Monday of the holding of the National Assembly in extraordinary session, by the reversal of the Quorum of the upper chamber due to the absence of senators of G6 during the roll call https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12876-haiti-flash-d-7-the-g6-puts-the-national-assembly-in-failure.html and following the new convening for Wednesday, the opposition senators sent a letter to the President of the Senate, whose we obtained copy, in which they explain why they will not be present again Wednesday and set the prerequisites for their participation.

Letter from the G6 :

"Honourable Senator Dieuseul Simon Desras

President of the National Assembly

Mr. President,

By expressing the wish that 2015 be for us a time of Unity et Commitmentfor the national cause, we ask you to learn about our political position and to inform the Haitian Nation.

By extending our best wishes to all citizens and other parliamentarians, we take this opportunity to explain our impossibility to participate in the National Assembly today.

Mr. President,

Under no circumstances, we will, by our presence, endorse the unilateral choice of Mr. Evans Paul as Prime Minister. Because, the current political crisis requires serious negotiations with the real political actors needed to organize good elections during this year. This inevitably involves, among others, the establishment of a government composed of credible personalities and the formation of a Electoral Council according to the spirit of Article 289 of the Constitution.

Assured that you will understand the appropriateness of our position aimed at avoiding for the country a situation of total chaos, please, Honorable President, to kindly inform the President of the Republic that once found, this consensus will allow us other Senators to come together in a National Assembly to :

A) Vote the general policy of a Prime Minister of consensus;

B) Vote on the amendments to the electoral law;

C) Ratify international instruments in accordance with the Constitution;

D) Ratify the choice of Ambassadors;

E) and assume all other constitutional responsibilities;

Receive Mr. President the assurance of our availability at the service of the Common Fatherland.

Done at Port-au-Prince, January 5, 2015.

Senator Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aimé

Senator Pierre Franky Exius

Senator Jean William Jeanty

Senator Jean Charles Moïse

Senator Wesner Polycarpe

Senator Joseph Joël John"
