Haiti - Diplomacy : Message from the Governor General of Canada
To mark the day of independence of Haiti, his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, has sent a message to President Michel Martelly.

"On behalf of all my fellow citizens, it is with great pleasure that I offer to you and the people of Haiti my congratulations and best wishes of success and prosperity on the occasion of the 211th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Haiti.

Canada is pleased to celebrate the warm relations between our two countries, based on solid foundations, common values, and deep, direct links between our peoples. The recent appointment of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean at the head of the International Organization of La Francophonie illustrates in an exemplary way this synergy.

While you are preparing to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the tragic earthquake of 12 January 2010, know that all of Canada joins you in remembering the victims and that the Haitian people can continue to count on our strong presence in reconstruction and development efforts."
