Haiti - Politic : Michaëlle Jean condemns attack against Charlie Hebdo

Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of La Francophonie, condemns in the strongest terms the deadly attack occurred Wednesday, January 7 in Paris in the premises of the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

"I strongly condemn this heinous and cowardly act that has claimed many lives and caused enormous trauma. This frontal attack against freedom of expression is unacceptable and unjustifiable," she declared before adding "This goes against the fundamental values of tolerance, diversity and democracy carried by the Francophonie. The fight against terrorism is also that of the Francophone Community."

Recall that the declaration adopted by the Heads of State and Government gathered in Dakar on 29 and 30 November clearly states that the Francophonie condemns terrorism in all its forms and in all its manifestations, and any form of violence against journalists and media professionals.

The Secretary-General extends her condolences to the families and friends of the victims and expresses the solidarity of the French Community with the French Republic and the French people.
