Haiti - Security : More than 250,000 illegal weapons in circulation in the country...
Tuesday at the Police Academy on the road of frères, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the minustah, proceeded jointly to an operation to destroy 195 weapons and obsolete ammunition, seized during police operations.

Godson Orélus, General Director of the PNH stressed that this destruction, took place in the framework of the reduction of violence, indicating that an estimated more than 250,000 illegal weapons, were in circulation in Haiti, including handguns and large caliber weapons...

On this occasion, the Commissioner of the Canadian Police Serge Therriault, of the Minustah handed over to the PNH, a machine valued at $50,000, able to destroy 500 weapons a day. Stressing that this equipment "will contribute to the fight against the proliferation of outdated or illegal weapons used to power the crimes in Haiti," insisting on the need to strengthen the national management and control system of gun licenses.
