Haiti - Elections : The Minister Casimir requests the assistance of the OAS
Thursday, Pierre Richard Casimir, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, met with the Ambassador Frédéric Bolduc, Special Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Haiti,

The meeting focused particularly on the electoral issue. The Minister Casimir who was accompanied among others of Secretary of State for Justice, Me Jacquenet Oxilus and Dr. Jean Claudy Pierre, Chief of Staff of the Minister, reiterated the determination of the Executive to create conditions conducive to the holding of elections both free, honest, democratic and inclusive and that it was necessary to the to the approach of the elections, to launch an awareness campaign and outreach for the entire population and especially the future voters.

Richard Casimir has requested OAS assistance in the realization of this campaign, whose objective is to help people better prepare for elections and to reassure it about the neutrality of the government in the electoral process. The Minister has assured his interlocutor that his Ministry would make every effort to create a secure environment that will inspire confidence to stakeholders and promote the smooth progress of the next elections.

For his part, the Ambassador Bolduc reiterated the commitment of the OAS to continue to support the democratic process in Haiti. The two men agreed on the need to train Peace judges on the role they will have to play during the election period.

Subsequently, the Minister Casimir held a meeting with Carl Alexandre, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti (Minustah), in which it was supported in 2014.

The two men agreed on the need to work on the case of renewal of mandate of the judges and extend the program of legal assistance of proximity for low-income individuals in various parts of the country.
