Haiti - Politic : Marathon of visits for the new Minister of Sports

Monday : The Minister meets with the President of COH :

Jimmy Albert, the new Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC), met with a delegation of Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) led by Dr Hans Larsen President COH, after a presentation of the reality of the sport by Dr. Larsen, the delegation of the Olympic Committee listed several projects for which it is seeking the assistance of the Ministry :

  • Development of a national sports development program ;

  • Need to define the national sports policy ;

  • Preparation and adoption of laws relating to the development of sport in Haiti ;

  • MJSAC involvement in the efforts deployed by the federations on Imposed requirements by international sports bodies on doping ;

  • Management of "Centre Sportif pour l'Espoir" built by the IOC ;

  • Participation of Haiti to Toronto Games July 10 to 26, 2015.

Tuesday : Meeting with the Haitian Football Federation :

On Tuesday, the Minister Albert met at the Ranch of the Croix-des-Bouquets Dr. Yves Jean Bart, President of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF). In his speech, Dr. Jean Bart, stressed the approximate support of the public and private sectors to football. He also referred to expenses related to the preparation of national selections, the functioning of the Academy "Camp Nou" and the Centre FIFA Goal Joseph Blatter, which houses the national youth teams. In addition, the President of the FHF forwarded to the Minister the wish of the International Football Federation (FIFA) for greater state involvement in the sport king, to bring the FIFA to increase cooperation with Haiti.

For his part, the Minister Albert asked the FHF to kindly to wants to work together with his ministry to the organization of an inter-school football national championship and major projects to benefit the sector. He also informed his interlocutor of his intention to organize sports weekends at the Ranch of the Croix-des-Bouquets for youth. The discussions also focused on other issues relating to football and other sports.

Saturday : Meeting with 22 representatives of national sports federations and associations :

The Minister Albert met at the Annex of the Ministry (Frères), the representatives of 22 national sports federations and associations. This meeting was an opportunity for the Minister to make contact and engage reflection on the great problems of the sector. The holding soon of a Great Walk of youth and sport praticers in the streets of Port-au-Prince was discussed and the organization of school sports competitions and national games during the summer.

The leaders welcomed the idea of the Great Walk, as an initiative likely to create a positive impact on the community and the sport in general. They have, for this purpose, proposed the formation of an ad hoc committee to reflect on the implementation of this program loaded with expectations for the sporting world. Dr. Hans Larcen (President of the Haitian Olympic Committee), Margaret Graham (President of the Haitian Federation of Volley Ball), Dr Yves Jean Bart (President of the Haitian Football Federation), Fritz Gérold Fong (President of the Haitian Federation of weightlifting), Ronald Marseille (Secretary General of the Haitian University Sports Federation) agreed to be part of the commission. The latter will include, also, representatives of the Ministry and other sectors.

The Minister appealed to all sport praticers and lovers of sport, to take the opportunity to ask the real problems and to accompany the Ministry in the implementation of major projects, capable of opening investment doors important for the sector.
