Haiti - Climate : Floods in Nippes, at least 2 dead 01/10/2010 13:41:44
Yesterday Thursday, while a yellow alert was declared in Haiti by the National Meteorological Center, a tropical depression in the south of Cuba caused strong rains in the Nippes.
Several roads were cut off and extensive damage to infrastructure was reported. All the rivers of the Nippes are in spate, the downtown of Baradères is under water which threatens of other cities of the department. Fifteen families were evacuated in the town of Grand Boucan threatened by flooding.
The Direction of Civil protection reported that many homes were destroyed, crops have been devastated and livestock washed away by floods. The confirmed human toll is now of 2 dead.
