Haiti - Economy : A young reinvents the transport conditions in Pestel
Traveling within Haiti can prove to be very difficult. The lack of road infrastructure amplifies the division and between the different regions of the country. Therefore, it becomes extremely complicated to visit some rural areas as transport costs can be Pharaonic. The outermost regions and difficult to access are the main victims.

Pestel, municipality of the department of Grand Anse approximately 40,000 inhabitants, although located near the towns of Les Cayes (70 km) and Jérémie (75 km), Pestel residents are in the difficulty to travel freely towards these destinations. Three times a week there is a bus ensures the route Pestel - Cayes - Port-au-Prince. Apart from these three days, you have to pay about 1,500 gourdes for the route on a moto-taxi to go to Les Cayes. In case of emergency, illness or death, for example, the rental cost of transport can reach incredible proportions.

Disgusted by this, Jossué Bazile, young agronomist native of Pestel, who holds a DESS in Community Development at the Bolivarian University of Venezuela, decided to deal with it. This Pestelois, of heart and soul, has set up a Public transport service "Agrotrans" to reduce the problem of the route Pestel-Les Cayes, by investing in a Toyota all-terrain, ensuring daily this route. This initiative allows to solve a problem with multiple dimensions in the town of Pestel, indicated Josué Bazile, while specifying that his approach is part of a logic of social entrepreneurship.

If this early thirties, awarded to him a satisfecit for his contribution to solving a fundamental problem in the community, the latter is no less amazed by the arrival of this new service. Joseph François Bernard, a inhabitant of City Centre of Pestel, testifies noting that Agrotrans has solved a major problem that facing the city since the beginning of time. Such initiatives, he said "should be generalized across the country to facilitate the transport of lives and property, and stimulate economic exchanges." Me Ary Thomas, Judge of the town for his part found praiseworthy such action that improves the travel conditions of Pestelois by making the transport Pestel - Cayes available daily. Also, he invites the population of Pestel to value this achievement and to contribute to maintaining it always in state of well serve the community.

The Pestel-Les Cayes by AgroTran Service is 400 gourdes, cheaper than other means of alternative transportation. The revenue generated by this service are distributed equitably in order to make the investment profitable, ensure sustainability of the service and allow the driver to have income worthy of his work. After deducting the cost of fuel, and the recipes are divided: 25% for the driver, 25% for maintenance (high costs due to poor road conditions) and 50% for the owner.

Josué Bazile, said he had received no funding for the implementation of this service claiming not to be a "resigned, claiming" as saying the eminent economist Jacques Attali; that he is dedicated and committed to the transformation of the lives of the community, without waiting for assistance from the state or NGOs. In fact, the Toyota Land Cruiser, is not just ensuring the route Pestel-les Cayes, it also serves as ambulance for the population in case of illness and death, knowing that the town has no ambulance service.

Faced with the assistantship and the wait and see attitude that prevails in Haiti in recent years, Mr. Bazile with that experience, is convinced that young people like him, can transform the lives of their community through innovative initiative. He invited the youth of the country, including university students, to investigate and diagnose problems in their community, find practical solutions, without waiting for government intervention. He did not fail to focus on both social and economic impact of the initiative stressing that in one month Agrotrans has already transported 1,000 passengers in conditions that respect human dignity. Without forgetting that this initiative is creative of stable employment, also stimulates exchanges between people of Pestel and those of nearby cities.

Josué Bazile invites young Haitians to identify, develop their sense of belonging to their community, and act on structural problems and/or infrastructure that it confronts to help to sustainable change of the latter concluding "by resolving the problems of my community, my living conditions will result necessarily improved and the opposite is also true."
