In a statement, the leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) have expressed concern over the increasing number of policies, which seriously affect the Dominicans of Haitian descent and Haitian illegal immigrants living in the Dominican Republic.

Regional leaders underline the statement of the Dominican Government, not to extend the National Regularization Plan of Foreigners eyond June 16, 2015, the original due date. They also regret that the registration deadline for those born in Dominican territory, of foreign parents in an irregular immigration status and non-status in the civil registry [169-14 Act and its implementing regulations, Decree 250 -14] has expired on February 1 [after a 90-day extension https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12390-haiti-naturalisation-the-dominican-government-extends-by-90-days-the-registration-deadline.html ] and only 6,937 people have enrolled to demand regularization of birth, under this law.

CARICOM, which recalls the judgment of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, published October 22, 2014, ordering the Dominican court to amend its laws to recognize the citizenship of those born in their country, estimated that more 100,000 people are vulnerable to eviction. CARICOM "reiterates its condemnation to the repudiation exerted by the Government of the Dominican Republic, of the international law."

Faced with this situation, the leaders of the Caribbean Community have decided not to move forward on the possible integration of the Dominican Republic as a member of the regional organization "Based of recent events problematic, the Caribbean Community maintains its decision to stop all discussions with the Dominican Republic."

At the same time, Dominican sectors recommend that their Government to withdraw the application for membership of the Dominican Republic to CARICOM, noting the lack of interest, political or economic for their country to be a member of the Caribbean Community.
