Haiti - Elections : November 28 elections, the CONHANE is doubting

Edouard Paultre, head of the Haitian Council of Non State Actors (Conseil Haïtien des Acteurs Non Etatiques CONHANE) expressed his concerns about the electoral process. According to him, "technically, the organization of elections is not possible to date" while the government and the international community continue to declare otherwise. He noted that thousands of voters have perished in the earthquake and their names were not removed from the voters list which is, according to him, a door open to fraud of all kinds.

He said he understood the position of political organizations who want to boycott the electoral process, but says that as a member of civil society, the CONHANE continue to observe with great vigilance the electoral process.

About the poster campaign, launched last week, he said "to have noted inequalities and disparities between the candidates as regards financial means". Some candidates are barely visible, drowned in the flood of costly and giant posters of some candidates displayed throughout the Capital and province". This is why, he pleads in favor of a better control on the origin of the funds spent by certain candidates.
