Haiti - Economy : Index of Consumer Prices (ICP - February 2015)

The increase in the overall Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) benefiting from the stability of food world prices and the fall in prices of petroleum products in the local market has continued to slow to stand at 226.2 in February 2015 against 225.6 in January 2014, a slight monthly increase of 0.3% against 0.4% the previous month. Conversely, the annualized inflation rate increased by one percentage point in February, rising to 6.6% against 6.5% in January.

The indices that have contributed most to the monthly increase are "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" (+ 0.5%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 0.6%), "Planning, Equipment and Maintenance Housing" (+0.5 %)" and "Other goods and services" (+ 0.7%).

Note that the increase in the index "Food, Beverage & Tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget resulting from the increase of products such as beef meat (+ 0.8%), chicken (+ 2.2% ), ham (+ 0.6%), powdered milk (+ 0.6%), eggs (+ 1.4%), bananas (+ 2.4%), the pumpkin (+ 1.8%), the marker (+ 1.9%) , leek (+ 1.5%), eggplant (+ 2.0%), cabbage (+ 1.7%), onion (+ 1.2%), garlic (+ 1.5%), carrot (+ 1.3% ), tomatoes (+ 1.6%), yam (+ 2.5%), the malanga (+ 2.4%), cassava (+ 1.7%), pasta (+ 2.4%), potatoes (+2.6 %), orange (+ 1.3%) and papaya (+ 0.5%).

The increase observed in the index "'Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" is mainly due to the increase in products such as suit (+ 1.1%), T-shirt man (+ 0.9%), making clothes (+ 1.4%), shoes and tennis (+ 1.2%) and sandals (+ 1.0%).

The upward trend of the index "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" comes mainly of: living room furniture (+ 0.6%), dining room (+ 0.7%), the mattress (+ 1.8%) , tablecloth (+ 0.7%), refrigerator (+ 2.3%), wages of domestic workers (+ 1.3%) and miscellaneous services (+ 0.5%).

As for the increase in the index "Other goods and services" it is consecutive to the upward primarily of shampoo prices (+ 0.6%), perfume and eau de toilette (+ 2.0%), the body cream (+ 1.3%) and other hair care products (+ 0.6%).

Other goods and services : 14.2%

General Price Index by Region (Variation on a month) :

Metropolitan Area: +0.2% (Includes Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Petion-Ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquets.)

Rest West: +0.2% (includes departments SouthEast and West excluding the Metropolitan Area)

North: +0.3% (including the departments of North, Northeastern and Northwest)

South: +0.4% (including departments of South Grand Anse and Nippes)

Transversal: +0.5% (including departments of Centre and Artibonite)
