Haiti - Politic : End of visit for senior US officials
Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon, Counselor of the Department of State, visited Port-au-Prince March 30-31 accompanied by Haiti Special Coordinator Thomas Adams.

During this visit, he met with President Michel Martelly, Prime Minister, Evans Paul, several of his ministers, and senior representatives of the international community, including the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah).

Counselor Shannon noted the encouraging progress Haiti is making toward holding inclusive elections in 2015, in particular the recently announced electoral calendar setting out three rounds of elections in August, October and December https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13370-haiti-flash-electoral-timetable-official-version-final.html . He stressed that the United States will continue to support Haiti's efforts to ensure that elections are free, inclusive and credible.

Counselor Shannon also briefed Haitian government officials on the outcomes of his meetings in the Dominican Republic prior to his trip to Haiti. The United States welcomes the resumption of the Bilateral Dialogue between Haiti and the Dominican Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13488-haiti-politic-a-joint-bilateral-meeting-successful-and-promising.html , urges the Dominican Republic to work to provide citizenship to those who qualify under its naturalization and regularization processes, and encourages further migration discussions between the two countries that emphasize respect for the human rights of citizens on both sides of the shared border.
