Haiti - Reconstruction : Follow-up of major infrastructure projects in the North

Saturday, Rothchild François, the Minister of Communication conducted a follow-up tour of several major infrastructure projects in progress in the North: the redevelopment and expansion of the Port of Haut-du-Cap, the construction of the bridge to link the Boulevard to the airport and the "Blue Hills" bridge which will enable the connection between Verrières and Haut-du-Cap.

The Minister Francois, who was accompanied by the Vice Delegate of Cap-Haitien, Antonio Jules, the Mayor of the city, Yvon Altéon and the Director General of the Ministry of Communications, Calvin Cadet, was able to assess the progress of the port expansion work, carried out with the support of the United States. This facility after completion will be able to accommodate more commercial vessels for the export of products from the Caracol Industrial Park including facilitating the North's economic development.

The Minister then went to the site of the bridge connecting the Airport Boulevard, funded by the PetroCaribe funds to the tune of 90 million gourdes, which should be completed in June 2015. This bridge will facilitate the decongestion of neighboring arteries and a better flow of high-tonnage trucks that will transport products for export from Caracol towards the Port of Cap.

The Minister François concluded his tour with a visit to the site of the bridge "Blue Hills" almost completed, which will enable the connection between Verrières and Haut-du-Cap. The construction of this bridge, an initiative of President Martelly, will prevent residents to cross the river, reducing the risk of accidents.
