Haiti - Diplomacy : The new Chancellor of Haiti met his Dominican counterpart

Wednesday, on the sidelines of the eighth meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Chancellors of Haiti, Lener Renauld and of the Dominican Republic, Andrés Navarro, met in Quito, Ecuador.

The meeting allowed to take stock of the work done by the two countries through the bilateral agenda in order to ensure the continuity of the process initiated by the previous Chancellor of Haiti, Duly Brutus.

According to Navarro, progress has been made in various documents of bilateral agreements on security, education and the management of shared water basins "That is why the governments must maintain their disposal to an open and constructive dialogue to further deepen the progress in the negotiations and discussions on topics of mutual interest." He also expressed his "satisfaction" with the appointment of Ledner Renauld, as the new Chancellor of Haiti "an official who was involved in the reconciliation process between the Dominican Republic and Haiti," he said.

For his part Lener Renauld, recently appointed Head of the Haitian diplomacy https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13684-haiti-news-some-news-here-and-there.html , confirmed his intention to continue the dialogue process through the Joint Bilateral Commission (CMB) stating "[...] we need to do some internal coordination in our national institutions to define the steps to follow on all themes and development areas."

Furthermore he confirmed to his counterpart that the Government of President Martelly working on the resolution of the passport booklet production problem awaiting deliverance for Haitians living in the Dominican Republic. Recognizing that this delay had hampered the implementation of the Haitian responsibilities to Haitian nationals who wish to enroll in the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) implemented by the Dominican Republic "We are working with the purpose of issuing the document as soon as possible to Haitians who have submitted a registration application to PNRE."

The two diplomats agreed on a meeting at technical level of the Joint Bilateral Commission in mid-May and then for another meeting later in the month.
