Haiti - Politic : Leslie Voltaire meets Dominican Minister of Economy

Temistocles Montas, Dominican Minister of Economy confirmed he met in his office at the National Palace presidential candidate in Haiti Leslie Voltaire. "For us, the presence of M. Voltaire is very important, because the government of the Dominican Republic has a special interest in promoting and developing relations with the brotherly country and the upcoming elections is a good opportunity strengthen our ties, promote our bilateral relations and to hear the point of view of candidates on the problems of Haiti, and how they plan to address these problems".

Leslie Voltaire also met with the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP),and expressed with the Minister Montas all his gratitude "for the Dominican people, the Dominican government and the private sector, and especially President Leonel Fernandez for his solidarity with Haiti since the disaster last January". He believes that this tragedy has strengthened cooperation between the two countries, noting that "the stability of Haiti depends on job creation and future investments."

The candidate said that 54 countries have pledged more than ten billion dollars over ten years for the reconstruction of Haiti and urged Dominican employers, Haitian, Canadian, Brazilian and U.S. to meet with Haitian businesses together to rebuild Haiti "because alone, we can not do". Leslie Voltaire, believes that improving the standard of living of Haitians, implies a social and economic change in the level of life of Dominicans.
