Haiti - NOTICE : Symposium «Centenary of the American occupation» 14/05/2015 12:02:46
On the occasion of the centenary of the American occupation of Haiti, the "Inter University Centre for Studies and Research on Social Change in Haiti", organizes in collaboration with the State University of Haiti and Haiti Monde and in partnership with the National Library of Haiti and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, the symposium "Viewpoints on the first US occupation of Haiti (1915-1934)" (Regards croisés sur la première occupation américaine d'Haïti (1915-1934)). Among the major topics to be discussed in the framework of this symposium, include among others: the sovereignty and the right of interference, the conditions for the establishment of a protectorate, memory and trauma of the occupation, the resistance and emancipation from colonial rule, its heritage, etc... Academics, researchers, intellectuals and all those interested in the subject are invited to take part in the activities, whose details are provided below in the pdf. The symposium will be held on 18 May (Flag Day, Youth and University) until 22 May 2015, at the National Library of Haiti located at 193 Rue du Centre, Port-au-Prince) and to the "École doctorale" (3, rue Pacôt, Port-au-Prince). Several activities will also take place at the South Public University in Les Cayes and Henri Christophe University in Limonade. A photo exhibition about the period will also be held in Port-au-Prince and several provincial cities.
