Haiti - Social : Philbert Louis, injured in the demonstration on Friday died
Philbert Louis, 35, a mathematics professor, active member of the Union Nationale des Normaliens haïtiens (UNNOH) who was seriously injured Friday during a demonstration outside the Ministry of Education, died Saturday morning at the hospital where he had been rushed. According to doctors, the victim would have lost too much blood before being admitted to the operating room.

Recall that the demonstration organized by the UNNOH, protested against the government's decision to perform a traditional school year without taking steps to allow access to the education of hundreds of thousands of Haitian children left behind ...

According to testimony, the teacher was hit in the head by a tear gas canister reportedly fired almost at point blank range by a police officer belonging to the Departmental Unit Maintenance of Order (Unité départementale de Maintien d’Ordre UDMO) at the time where the Company for Intervention and Maintaining Order (Compagnie d'Intervention et de Maintien de l'Ordre CIMO) units dispersed the demonstrators.

Accordind a senior police official, the woman officer at the origin of the shooting, declared that the victim had tried to remove his weapon at the time of the tragedy. A version rejected by Joshua Mérilien the organizer of the demonstration stating that the police fired without reason on the victim, informing him that the UNNOH will take legal action against the alleged killer and that the prosecutor of Port-au-Prince already been seized of the matter. A complaint will be filed with the General Inspectorate of the Haitian National Police (PNH). In addition, the organizer attributes the death of the teacher to the negligence of HUEH doctors.

Meanwhile, despite this tragedy, Joshua Mérilien announces that mobilization will increase.
