Haiti - FLASH : A bus attacked, two seriously injured...
Thursday morning, some student-teachers of the Training center for fundamental education (CFEF) demanding their appointment as teachers in the education system attacked a bus carrying employees of the Ministry of Education, causing several injuries. Following this attack in a statement the Ministry denounces this attack and announced precautionary measures.

"The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) noted with astonishment the violent attack Thursday, May 28, 2015 in Martissant, by students of the Training center for fundamental education (CFEF) of Port au-Prince, against departmental employees going to their workplace in a bus of the Ministry.

At least two serious injuries were reported and several employees came out traumatized by this serious attack, free and deliberate of these students.

MENFP condemns this criminal act, especially since it is caused by student-teachers demanding their appointment as teachers in the education system.

Given this situation, it was decided the following :

  • The non-validation by MENFP of the probation year for student teachers who, without having completed their training, have abandoned their workplace for more than a month and commit violent acts of extreme gravity ;
  • The temporary closure of CFEF, given the failure to ensure the regular functioning of the institution for more than two weeks, taken hostage by students ;
  • The appointment of a commission charged to restructuring the institution ;
  • The accompaniment of the MENFP to victims employees who will initiate criminal proceedings against those responsible for these barbaric acts.

MENFP take this opportunity to appeal to the sense of responsibility and remember that a teacher should be a role model for young people. The recruitment of an agent is conditioned by his academic qualifications but also by his exemplary behavior, vocational and character.

MENFP appeals to the sense of responsibility of all to curb these abuses that degrade the Haitian school"
